Google Fred update
Google Fred update was launched in March 2017, the name Fred was inspired by a tv cartoon actor name “Fredrick”. The main target of Fred’s update was that websites that are using black-hat tactics. It hits all those websites for doing contentious monetization. Some sites witness a major drop in traffic overnight. Some of them even see a major decline of 90% in traffic. Google didn’t announce this update in advance and therefore many SEOs professionals were worried when they saw such a huge drop in traffic.
Google didn’t give any explanation for this update, however, it was believed those sites were affected which used monetization tactics aggressively. It was analyzed that those sites which contain very less content very heavy advertisements were affected the most. After removing the ads from their website, the site gain traffic again. Along with the heavy ads website, those websites which had poor quality backlinks were also affected. Many websites with week backlinks were hard hit by this update. This applies that backlinks with broken links and poor domain authority were the most affected ones.
Google Panda update
The Google Panda update was rolled out by Google in February 2011. Subsequently, This update was targeting all those websites which are using low-quality content & also those which are containing narrow content. So, It decreases the ranking of all such websites. Pages with low content were a target, for instance, a page meant to describe the property and contain very few lines.
Plagiarized content on a website is a major issue. It usually happens when you create more than one page and copied the same content with very little or no variation. Pages that didn’t have detailed information and were valueless for the readers. Those content that does not have credible sources were a major challenge. To overcome this issue the site must give links with greater authority and reliable source. A huge collection of low-quality pages collected from other sites also known as content farming were targeted by Panda updates. When content is produced with a short content and contains a wide search query generally have very week authority. This is done to just gain rank whenever each query is made. When the publisher generates content with a lot of grammatical errors and very short information also lacks authority.
Google Penguin update
The Penguin update of Google was launched in 2012 by Google. The main purpose of launching this update was to prevent search engines from spam or spyware(like keyword stuffing, spam links, etc.) that it would not be awarded as a higher placed SER.
Websites that didn’t follow the guidelines of Google were affected by the Penguin update. Some of the malpractices are like manipulating the links or purchasing them. In the earlier versions of Update, If web spam was spotted then the entire domain was devalued by Google. Now the web spam site is filtered on the URL basis, if such site is identified then it will be ranked lower. Your site can always recover from the punishment but when the update is still on its way then it becomes very difficult to recover from the penalty. Hummingbird was a code name for a change in the algorithm update of Google that occurred in 2013. It was a reason behind the name of this update that is “hummingbird ”, a bird that is famous for its quickness & accurateness. So it was an update for improving the speed & accuracy of the search engine that it can provide the most suitable results to the users. You can recover from this update in many ways.
